FLUTE MAESTRO

Blog BY- DR. Jaya Kumar

A few days ago, me and my family went to watch a popular musical concert.
Music has immense power. The power to control your mind by giving internal peace.
We felt this beautiful feeling when we heard one of the living legends of our country perform at that concert.
The legend was Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia who gave a melodious presentation with his flute. He is the flute maestro of India who has made us proud for many years.
The power of his instrument could be felt by everyone. We were mesmerized by his flute's melodious notes that struck a chord inside.
The high and the low notes were well-synchronised.
He became a showman on the stage he held. The glorious age of approaching 80 years was showing on him, but, even at that age, he had the energy of an instrumentalist much younger to him.
He performed like an unstoppable genious. The sound of his flute truly showed his command on his mastership. All could feel his passion, dedication and commitment towards his chosen instrument. Having become a legend in his field over years, we could feel the hard-work he must have put in and his untiring practice.
We wished that the time could stop at that moment as his brilliant performance could not let us even blink our eyes.
We seemed cut-off from the outside world and were enjoying the wonderful world of melodious sounds from the flute.
We could imagine what effect Lord Krishna would have had on the Gopis using the same simple flute.

Flute as an instrument seems to have some cosmic powers too. Every musical note produced by it relaxes the mind and re-energizes the body.
Indian classical instruments have a power of their own.
Our son, who is also a young emerging classical instrumentalist, could connect to the beautiful presentation as well.
He too, felt fortunate to witness a live performance by the living legend himself.
When Panditji ended his performance, everyone gave him a well-deserved standing ovation. He had achieved heights in his field by his true devotion. He had put his heart in what he did and that is what we felt everyone should surely learn from him.
His true dedication towards his art deserved to be well-appreciated.
We felt blessed to have such an extraordinary and a blissful experience...

The words and views expressed in my blogs are personal and are my original work of thoughts.
